Actress. Nicknamed "The Queen of Cabaret," she enjoyed an extensive career on and off the Broadway stage. Born Julie May Wilson, her father was a coal salesman, her mother was a hairdresser, Julie developed a love for music during her youth. She began singing in choirs in her native Omaha. Her beauty earned her the title of "Miss Nebraska", however she was later deemed to young at the age of seventeen to be considered the winner and her crown was revoked. She was not discouraged by this event and ventured to New York City, where she experienced performing in such top clubs as the Copacabana. Her break in entertainment happened, when she was cast as 'Lois Lane' (not to be confused with the character of the same name from "Superman") in the Musical "Kiss Me, Kate" which was performed at London's West End Theatre. The show ran for 400 performances. She marked her motion picture debut in "The Strange One" (1957) and followed this with "This Could Be the Night" (1957). Her TV credits include "Kraft Theatre" and "The Phil Silvers Show." She repeated her part as 'Lois Lane' in a TV adaptation of "Kiss Me, Kate" in 1958. She received a Tony Award nomination for playing 'Flo' in the Broadway production "Legs Diamond" (1988 to 1989. She was formerly married to actor Michael McAloney.
