DEATH OF MRS. MURRAY
(Fairfield Recorder Obits 1900-1901,1903-1905; transcribed by Nancy Rula 2012,p.83; Sept 18, 1903 Issue)

The Recorder clips the following from a recent issue of the Houston Post. Mrs Murry was the widow of John T. Murray, one of the early citizens of Freestone county, and who moved from here to Houston about twenty years ago:
Mrs Elizabeth Murray, aged 69 years, died at her home 2911 Fannin street, at 8:10 yesterday morning after an illness of several weeks. She has been a resident of this city for the past twenty years and had many friends, who together with her family, will mourn her loss. She is the mother of Mr. William Murray and Mrs. W.P. Hudson, both of this city. The funeral occurred yesterday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Mr. Ammmons. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to their last resting place.

NOTE: The 1880 Freestone County Census lists her as a widow with the following children: C. K., Alice A., Marietta, V. L., and Ann. The 1870 Census lists her husband as John T. with the following children: William G., Charles H., Alice, Maryetta, Virginia, and Anabel. In 1860 they lived in Cherokee County.

Her husband, John T. Murray, was listed on the Fairfield Masonic records as passing away in 1872. He is most likely buried in the Fairfield City Cemetery.
