Ben R. Cook, 91, of Chrisman, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 7:30pm. He was born on May 8, 1923 in Middletown, Indiana, the son of Murl and JoSine Cook. He married June Slaybaugh on April 6, 1943 in Akron, Indiana. She survives.

Also surviving is one son, Ramsey (Penelope) Cook of Chrisman, one daughter, Marcia Ann of Chrisman. Four grandsons Tyler and Patrick Cook of St. Petersburg, Florida, Robby Yontz of St. Louis Missouri, and David Yontz of Columbia, Missouri, and three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Leo, and Zay Yontz of Columbia, Missouri. He leaves behind one brother, David Cook, Danville, Illinois, two nieces, one nephew, and two cousins. Ben was preceded in death by his parents, and his brothers Joe and Paul.

Ben enlisted in the Navy during WWII and served as a Pharmacist’s Mate First Class. After the war, he and June lived in Indianapolis while he completed Pharmacy School at Butler University. They lived in various places before moving in 1952 to Danville, Illinois. After moving to Chrisman in 1955, Ben opened Cook Drugs. In 1964 Ben and June opened The Villager dress shop next to the drugstore. Ben and June were inseparable and worked alongside of one another all of their married life.

For many years, Ben and June enjoyed attending the White Sox Spring Training in Sarasota, Florida. Ben had many joys in life—reading, the love of animals, and farming.
There will be no visitation. Interment will be at 11am Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Woodland Cemetery in Chrisman. Family and friends are welcome to attend.
