For a great number of years the deceased resided in Au Sable Forks village after going there while a young man, in the early 1900s. Mr. Washburne was married to Rose Matott of Coopersville, New York, about 1907 and she preceded him in death 26 years prior. Mr. Washburne was in the employ of the Au Sable Supply Company in Au Sable Forks with which he was associated for many years and he was for a long time in charge of the company's grocery department until the firm went out of business after the great fire of May, 1925, which destroyed most of the business district and several residences here.
Mr. Washburne then went to work for the R. E. Morhous Plumbing and Supply Company, looking after the firm's books and handling all of the electrical work. He was remembered by many Au Sable Forks residents as an ardent baseball fan. After moving to Plattsburgh, he would often go to Au Sable Forks on summer holidays to see the Au Sable Forks ball team in action against visiting teams, and never missed calling on his friends on Memorial Day or Labor Day.
He erected the house in the Jersey section of Au Sable Forks, then owned by Mrs. Anna Hodges in 1954, about 30 years ago. For the past several years he had worked at Bourdeau's Market, Plattsburgh, owned by his son-in-law, James Bourdeau. Besides his daughter, Mrs. James Bourdeau, he was survived by three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 8:00 o'clock Monday morning, May 3, 1954, in St. John's Church, Plattsburgh, and burial was in the family plot in Holy Name cemetery, Au Sable Forks.
