Born January 6, 1924, in International Falls, Minnesota, Carole was raised in a small log home on the shores of Lake of the Woods, near the Canadian Border. She was only a sophomore in high school when her mother passed away, and for the next few years she helped to raise her two younger sisters, under extremely difficult conditions. In 1942, Carole set out on her own, traveling to Minneapolis where she paid her own way through beauty school while working at the boarding house where she lived. After graduation, she was employed at Peterson's Beauty Solon in Brainerd, Minnesota where she met the owner's son and her future husband, Daniel Peterson.
Daniel became a naval aviator and the two spent 63 adventurous years together traveling to many parts of the world. Carole continued working as a hairdresser while being a consummate mother to her two sons. She is remembered as a very giving and religious person, always helping those in poor health, or with less fortune and for some years after retirement she was a 'Pink Lady' hospital volunteer. She loved to play golf.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel, and her sister Donna Weiner. Survivors include two sons, George Peterson and his wife Marge, Kingsville, Texas and Greg Peterson and his wife Kim, Rome, Georgia, a sister, Doris Atwater, Knoxville, Tennessee, four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held in Forest Meadows Central Cemetery, 4100 NW 39th Avenue Gainesville, Florida 32606 on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at 9 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the New Armuchee Baptist Church Joy Club, Armuchee, GA.
