Lowell Ford Carlson
June 28, 1948 - April 2, 2015
"OK, everyone enjoy your lives. I've had a lot of joy in mine thanks to all of you! I love you all…" - Bullitt Lowell Ford Carlson, 66, passed away on April 2, 2015. Lowell was born, June 28, 1948 in Everett, Washington to Raymond Carlson and Maude Jones Carlson. He was the oldest of four children. The Carlson family lived in Point Baker, Alaska and were fisherman by trade. At the age of 15 years old, Lowell came to Ashton, Idaho to live with the Jessen Family, who raised him as their own son. The Jessens became his second family and Lowell loved and regarded them as his own parents and siblings. Lowell was active in both football and basketball, and graduated from North Freemont High in 1967. In September of 1968 Lowell joined the Marines and served in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal in October of 1969. He attended Idaho State University where he played football and was also introduced to Rugby. Lowell married Sylvia Harris in 1969, and they were blessed with three daughters; Brooke, Yvonne, and Audrey. Lowell and Sylvia were later divorced. Lowell met Maria Tsakrios, became best friends and were married March 15, 1986. Lowell and Maria were blessed with two more daughters, Katie and Danielle. They enjoyed their lives together in Pocatello. Maria passed away in 2003. Throughout his life Lowell and his family enjoyed fishing, camping, travel, as well as attending his daughter's various extracurricular and athletic events. He was an avid fan of his children and grandchildren, and never missed a birthday. As often as possible, Lowell would return home to Point Baker, Alaska to visit his parents and brothers, Pete and Sam. They would enjoy halibut and salmon fishing in Alaskan waters. In his lifetime Lowell worked as a logger, crab fisherman, and Carman at the UPRR. He was also a skilled welder specializing in stainless steel and worked at the B.E. Plant, and later in life, at AMI in Pocatello. Above all, Lowell, A.K.A. Bullitt, loved Rugby. He was instrumental in establishing the Rugby community in Southeastern Idaho, which continues to flourish. His friends and teammates were also an extension of his family. Lowell's rugby family not only stretched across the US, but reached as far as Scotland, Wales, England, and Australia. Recently Lowell met Maggie Stewart, they were engaged to be married in June of this year. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Maude Carlson, and Jack and Nieca Jessen; his brothers Pete and Ray Jr, and his wife Maria. Lowell survived by his fiancé, Maggie; 6 children, Brooke, Yvonne, Audrey, Duffin, Katie, Danielle, and five grandchildren, Harrison, Mitchel, Griffin, Tyson, and Colton; siblings, Sam, Terry, Bruce, Jackie, and Kay. As per his wishes, Lowell was cremated and a graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 7th at 11:00AM at Mountain View Cemetery, Section 52 West. A Wake will follow at 12:00PM at the Porneuf Valley Brewery.
