EVELYN M. SEEL, 89, of Cherokee, Iowa, passed away Thursday evening April 2, 2015 in the Cherokee Villa Nursing & Rehab Center, surrounded by her family.

Evelyn was born on January 2, 1926 to John & Charlotte (Brinkman) Harms at the Harms family home north of Marcus, Iowa. She was baptized January 24, 1927 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church at Germantown, Iowa by Pastor H. Steges. She attended country school across the road from her home. She attended confirmation school at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Marcus, Iowa being confirmed April 6, 1941 by Rev. Wittkop receiving her first communion on April 11, 1941. She married Marvin Seel on December 12, 1943 at the Harms family home in a double wedding ceremony with her brother Leonard Harms & Mildred Aldred. To this union four children were born; Darlene, Donna, Dennis and Doug. They farmed in the Marcus and surrounding areas before purchasing the Harms family farm in 1960. She enjoyed raising chickens and gardening. Evelyn worked at Player Pianette Inc. and Marcus Nursing Home for several years before moving to Cherokee and working for the Cherokee Villa Nursing and Rehab Center for 21 years. Evelyn was the first employee the Cherokee Villa hired and was also the first resident to move into the Willowbrook Apartments, living there until November of 2013 when she entered the Cherokee Villa due to declining health. She had been a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Marcus and participated in the Ladies Aide for many years. Her belief in God, Church and family will always be remembered. She never missed her grandchildren’s Christmas Eve Church programs at Grace Lutheran in LeMars and Trinity Lutheran in Cherokee, the great grandchildren’s programs at Faith Lutheran in Sioux City. Evelyn was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cherokee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Douglas Seel, granddaughters Kimberly and Melissa Colvert, two son-in-laws Ed Norell and Steven Colvert, her ex-husband Marvin Seel, brother Raymond (Wilhelmina) Harms, sister Mildred (William) Kaiser, and a brother Leonard Harms.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Darlene Norell of LeMars, Iowa; Donna Colvert of Cherokee; Dennis and (Debbie Gotto) Seel of Irvine, California; grandchildren; Jennie Marie (Norell) Raine of York, SC; Julie Ann (Norell) Ueding of LeMars; Chris (Colvert) & Geoff Kling of Sioux City; Matt Colvert of Cherokee; Amy (Seel) Hellewell of Irvine, California; Chad (Tinesha Loucks) Seel of Bastrop, Texas; Nicholas Seel of Sutherland; great grandchildren, Rob Wilson of Charlotte, NC; Ryan Wilson and fiancé Nikki Dart of Charlotte, NC; Stephanie Hatfield of Vermillion, SD,; Shay Hatfield of Maryville,MO; Cody Hatfield of LeMars; Alex and Katie Raine of York, SC; Charlotte Seel of Bastrop, TX; Kaili and Braden Hellewell of Irvine, CA; Steven and Andrew Kling of Sioux City; great great grandson Noah Wilson of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law Mildred Harms of Marcus, Iowa; Dorothy (Seel) Junior Bierman of Cherokee, Iowa; also several nieces and nephews.
