Edwin Hughes Hudson , Sr., 82, of 1608 Sherron Road, died on Sunday afternoon, May 14, following a lengthy period of declining health.
Mr. Hudson was a native of Apex and had lived in Durham all of his life. He was the son of the late Sanders Vance and Ora Thompson Hudson , Sr. He was a retired, self-employed carpenter and cabinet maker. He formerly operated Hudson Funeral Home from 1938 until 1945. From 1946 until 1950, he and his late brother, Ollie T. Hudson , Sr., were partners in operating the funeral business. Later, after his retirement from the funeral business, he again was associated with Hudson Funeral Home from about 1987 until 1992 when his health failed. He attended Sherron Acres Free Will Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Hudson Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Fred Rivenbark will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Durham Funeral Directors.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Pearl Oakley Hudson ; two sons, Ed Hudson , Jr., and Jerry Van Hudson , both of Durham; a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis H. Matthews of Durham; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Hudson Funeral Home tonight from 7 until 9 p.m., and other times at the home, 1608 Sherron Road.
