Donald was the son of Della McGrath (Ireland) and Arthur S. White (England). He was just 20 years old when he enlisted in the US Navy and shortly thereafter was survived by his sister Della White and brother John Arthur White in 1941. He was a Seaman, Second Class in the US Navy and drowned at sea. He was assigned to the USS Nashville.
