Alvin Harley apprenticed in the architectural firms of Albert Kahn and George Mason. He opened his own architectural firm in 1908, partnering with Norman Atcheson until 1912, then with Harold Ellington from 1933-1942, then along with Harold Day Sr, the firm became Harley, Ellington and Day from 1943-1960. Harley retired from the firm in 1963.
Mr. Harley is known for his designs of several of Detroit's finest buildings. He passed away in September 1976 and is interred not far from his original mentor, Albert Kahn.
