As a boy, he attended school at the Dillon School house which became East Van Meter No. 2. He was a member of DeSoto United Methodist Church, Adel Lodge No 80. the Van Meter Post of the American Legion and the Odd Fellows Lodge. He served overseas during World War I.
In 1922 Eldon married Lela Buel who preceded him in death in 1970. Other preceding him death were: his parents, three brothers, Joe, Nile, Ival and one sister Mary Gibson.
His survivors are sisters: Mrs. Ruth French of Van Meter, Mrs. Winifred Cadwell of rural Adel, sister-in-law, Mrs. Lena Yetter of West Des Moines, brother-in-law, Glenn Buel of Waukee, nieces and nephews.
