Celestia Belle Lanning was born in Andrew county, Missouri, Sept. 15, 1866, and died at her home, north of Van Meter, Iowa, Monday morning, Nov. 7, 1927, after having being a sufferer with heart trouble for about a year and a half. When about nine years old she came with her parents to Dallas county, Iowa, and has made her home in this county continuously since. She was united in marriage to Jacob Stump, Oct. 22, 1899. To this union were born eight children, Mrs. Mary Gibson of Ree Heights, S. Dako., Eldon, Ivol, Nile, Mrs. Ruth French, Mrs. Winifred Cadwell and Joe Stump, all of Van Meter, Iowa, and one who died in infancy.

She is survived by her husband, seven children, twelve grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Florence Henry of Van Meter, Mrs. Hulda Manders of Winterset, Mrs. Ruth Watrous of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Mrs. Martha White of Bedford, Iowa, and three brothers Joe Lanning of Van Meter, Manford of Redfield, and William of Dulbertson, Nebr.

The pall bearers, all nephews of the deceased, were Claude Stump, Frank Manders, Bert Henry, Elmer Stump, Roy Henry and Ed McNair. The burial was at the Thornton cemetery.
