Detectives felt he died early Saturday, the 22nd. Paul Lee Gossett of Merced was arrested for the murder with special circumstances due to the brutality of the event. The two had gone fishing. Gossett was held on $500,000 bail and deemed mentally stable to stand trial. He was convicted and sentenced to 15 years to life in Atascadero State Mental Hospital. He was determined to be a paranoid schizophrenic. No motive was ever released.
