She was born on November 3, 1939, in Ashford, WV, in Boone County, daughter of the late Clifford C. “Sam“ and Erna Withers Tackett.
She was a 1957 graduate of Sherman High School. Ruth was a member of the Kaiser And Douglas Church of Christ in Ravenswood, and a volunteer at the Senior Citizens Center in Sandyville, WV. She also worked at Kanawha Valley Bank in Charleston, WV. She was Designer and Manager of Dudley’s Florist in Ravenswood.
Surviving are her husband, Samuel B. Smith, Ravenswood, WV; daughter-in-law, Rose Staats Smith, Ravenswood; grandson, Anthony “Tony” Smith, Huntington, WV; brother, Edwin Tackett and wife Becky, Forest, VA; several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends; and special friends, the Staats family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Mark.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2015, at Fairplain Cemetery following visitation at Roush Funeral Home, with Pastor Don Maxson officiating.
Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Thursday, April 9, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sandyville Senior Center Building Fund, 1350 Gilmore Drive, Sandyville, WV 25275.
