She married Robert A. Sander on June 4, 1946, in Walker. He preceded her in death in 1980.
She was a homemaker and moved to Hays in 1974, after living on a farm north of Walker. She was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Perpetual Adorers of Hays, Daughters of Isabella and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, both of Victoria, and Christian Mothers of St. Ann Catholic Church, Walker. She was a former member of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, Hays and St. Ann Catholic Church.
Survivors include a son, Steve Sander and wife, Bonnie, Walker; a daughter, Patricia "Pat" Legleiter and husband, Harry, Hays; a brother, Robert A. Staab, Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Pauline Nuss (Ray), Dallas; three sisters-in-law, Frances Staab, Great Bend, Nancy Staab, Lisbon Wis., and Blandine Giebler, Russell; a brother-in-law, Jack Guy, Columbiana, Ohio; her special friend and companion for 21 years, Adolph Degenhardt, Hays.
Also surviving, ten grandchildren, Renee Ford (Richard), Janell Nease (Daniel), Wendy Nease (Michael), Leah Leiker (Carl), Trisha Harris (Andrew), Annie Erbert (Myron), Christopher Sander (Christie), Robert Sander, Matthew Sander and Gregory Sander; 13 great-grandchildren, David and Michael Ford, Ashley and Kristen Nease, Samuel and Gabriel Nease, Noah and Halo Lieker, Viola Harris, Eva Erbert, Lydia, Wesley, and Nicholas Sander.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Edwin, Alvin and Francis Staab; three sisters, Aurelia Hammerschmidt, Margaret Rush and Estella Guy.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Ann Catholic Church; burial in St. Ann Cemetery, Walker. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine, and from 9:15 a.m. until time of service Friday at the church. A Perpetual Adorers rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, a Victoria Daughters of Isabella rosary at 6:30 p.m., and a vigil at 6 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Hays, or St. Ann's Catholic Church, Walker in care of the funeral home.
