Onzie Blevins, 71, of Beartown, WV, went to be with the Lord Monday, December 29, 2014, at the Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, TN.
Onzie was born October 26, 1943 in Iaeger, WV, a son of the late Orville Blevins (1906-1983) and Laura Edna Shrader-Blevins (1901-1982). Onzie was a retired coal miner working most of his 35 years at Island Creek Coal Company at Coal Mountain, WV and Consol Energy. He was a member of Beartown Community Church, he enjoyed spending time with his family, taking care of his old home place and his farm animals.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Luther Blevins (1929-1929), Clarence Blevins (1930-1930), Henry Blevins (1935-1936), Alvis Blevins (Deceased), and two sisters Ida Blevins-McCoy (1941-2005) and Rosie Blevins-Vanover (1945-Deceased); one grandchild and three great grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nancy Hannah Brant-Blevins (B. 1943) of the home whom he married on November 25, 1965 in Beartown, McDowell County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, McDowell County, WV, 1965, Page 475, Application Date: November 13, 1965), one son, Robert Onzie Blevins and wife Angela of Beartown, WV; one daughter, Barbara Blevins-Ramey and husband Timothy Ramey of Grundy, VA; three grandchildren, Hannah Farmer Belcher and Husband Ryan of Vansant, VA, T.J. Ramey and Gabrielle "Gabby" Blevins of Beartown, WV; one great grandson, Joseph Adam Belcher; one brother, Albert Blevins and wife, Kathryn of Princeton; one sister, Virgie Blevins-Rice-Parks (1931-2017) and husband James Parks of Iaeger, WV; and a host of additional family and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, January 4, 2015, at 1:00 with Assistant Pastor Phyllis Rowe officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Burial will follow in the Blevins Cemetery on Coon Branch Mountain near Iaeger WV.
