Mary Ann Thomas, daughter of Isaac Thomas and Jane Evans, was born 23 December 1858 in Wales and died 27 January 1927 at Forest City, Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania according to her death certificate #5988. Mary immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1865. In her obituary, the family described her early years in America on a truck farm owned by her maternal uncles in Plains, Pennsylvania. Mary was twenty when she married Elias Davis and had seven children before he died. She was only about 35 years old when widowed, trying to raise a large family. It is no surprise that after the death of Elias, she married Henry Wilkins about 1892. They lived in Forest City Borough raising the Davis boys along with children from the second marriage. The rented family house at 732 Rail Road Avenue was on the north side of Forest City and close to the downtown churches, stores, and the first mining operation.

Mary died after a month-long illness. Her death certificate lists pneumonia as the cause of death. The details of Mary’s funeral in Forest City paint a picture of a much beloved member of that community. Many friends from town attended the ceremony and an abundance of flowers were displayed. She attended the local church and had numerous friends including the ladies she worked with at the Ladies’ Aid of the Bethel Congregational Church.
