Son of Ira and Rebecca (Kimball) Rowell. Born in 1835 in New Hampshire. Growing up, circa 1854, he attended Pembroke Academy in Pembroke, NH. It burned down in 1900. On 8 September, 1870, he married Clara S. Webster, daughter of George and Clara S. Webster in Lowell Massachusetts. She was 26 at the time, and he was 34. Edward died on August 4th, 1899 in Lynn, Massachusetts.
Served in the Civil War with Co. F 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters. Residence Concord, NH, age 25. Commissioned 11/26/61 as 2nd Lieutenant. Promoted to Captain 7/13/62; to Major 7/1/63; Lt. Colonel 2/17/64 (not mustered). Wounded 6/17/64 at Petersburg, VA. Mustered out 11/26/64.
