Ellen E. Ross, 94, of Freeport died Thursday, March 19, 2015, at Stephenson Nursing Center, Freeport. Born September 21, 1920, in Spring Valley Twp, MN; she was the daughter of Per Erik and Annie Emella Gustafson. In 1936, she and Gilbert Leo Ross were united in marriage. While raising their children they were members of First English Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeport. She enjoyed playing the accordion with her brothers, dancing, crocheting and her shopping trips. Surviving are her children, Lee (Pat) Ross of Rockford, Jan (Bill) Hoefle of Dakota, Patty Gilbertson of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Roger (Sally) Ross of Freeport; 15 grandchildren; 32 great- grandchildren; 15 great- great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; daughter, Sharon Luy; two grandchildren, Debbie and Terry Lee Ross; five brothers; four sisters; two sons-in-law, Alvin Gilbertson, Bill Luy; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Ross. Visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Oakland Cemetery and Mausoleum. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. at Oakland. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial has been established in her name for the Transitions Hospice of Rockford.
