SATURDAY AT THE TYLER MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, TUNKHANNOCK.
Lawrence E. Whipple Sr., 73, of R.R. 1, Laceyville, (West Auburn) died March 29, 1997. Saturday at the Tyler Memorial Hospital, TunkhannockBorn April 18, 1923, in Laceyville, he was the son of the late Earl and Myrtle Brotzman Whipple. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed in the Mediterranean Sea from 1943 to 1944. Prior to his retirement in 1987, he was employed as a security guard by Taylor Packing Co., Wyalusing. He attended West Auburn Baptist Church. He was a member of Wyalusing American Legion Post 534; Wyalusing Valley Memorial Post 7593 V.F.W.; and a life member of the Tri-County Sportsman Club, Silvara. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dale E. Whipple, and a brother, Orra Whipple. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, the former Doris M. Diesel; sons, Lawrence E. Jr., Gayle, and Lawrence (Dale) Whipple, all of Wyalusing; daughters, Mrs. Donna Brown, Allentown; Mrs. Edward (Lee Ann) Burgess, Laceyville; Mrs. Gilbert (Darlene) Kohler, West Auburn; Mrs. Kathlene Wilmarth, Wyalusing; a brother, LeRoy Whipple, Auburn Four Corners; sisters, Mrs. Polly Carpenter, Baltimore, Md.; Mrs. Nettie Canfield, Sayre; Mrs. Robert (Hazel) Stanley, Wyalusing; Mrs. Robert (Patty) Bishop, Auburn Four Corners; Mrs. Earline Dockins, Alto, Ga.; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the West Auburn Baptist Church, Laceyville, with the Rev. Tim Barnett officiating. Interment will be in Beaver Meadows Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Goodwill Fire Co., Laceyville, 18623, or West Auburn Baptist Church, R.R.1, Laceyville, 18623.
