Virginia (Doerr) Pearson was born on April 11, 1947, in Hoven, SD, to Edward and Daisy (Murphy) Doerr. She was raised on the family farm northeast of Agar with brothers Dennis and Jim, and sisters Dorthy and Madonna. Virginia attended Agar schools and was a Hi-Pointer cheerleader. After graduating in 1965, she attended SDSU, the BHSC and received her BA in teaching. Virginia spent 42 years of her work career with the Department of Social Services in Child Protection, where she was part of the Child Protection Team, a fund she deeply believed in. She was the longest CPS worker in the state of SD. She devoted much time and money, outside of work as well, helping those in need, and was dedicated to the protection of children and families. One of her greatest qualities was her belief in people and their ability to change for the better. She could see the good in others and was a very modest person. She met many wonderful people through this work.

Virginia married DeVere Pearson at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Agar, November 11, 1971. They made their home in Mobridge and raised their three children Tanya, DevRee, and DJ. Virginia and DeVere were married for 36 years before his passing in 2007. Over those years they enjoyed their time together attending church, their children’s and grandchildren’s functions, and travel. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was very blessed to have such a supportive and loving family in her siblings, Jim, Dorthy, Madonna, and Sola.

Virginia began her journey with cancer, first with losing her mother to in 1998, then with DeVere’s diagnosis in 2003. Losing him in 2007 was nearly unbearable. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, and won the first, and then the second battles. The third diagnosis was in January of this year, and having so many challenges already faced, and more ahead of her, Virginia’s body began to fail. Her strong faith and love for her family carried her until Saturday, when she took her last breath.

She is survived by her children, Tanya (Jeremy) Huber of Mobridge, DevRee Pearson of Mobridge, and D.J. (Christa) Pearson of Rapid City, SD; her grandchildren, Kennedy Morgan, Jonah Theodore, Synessa Jeanette, and Keon Charles; two grandchildren on the way, Benjamin DeVere and Baby Pearson; her two special foster grandchildren; her brother Jim (Karen) Doerr and family of Gettysburg; her sister Dorthy Shoup of Gettysburg and Madonna (Rich) Perry and family of Spearfish; her sister-in-law Sola Jost and family of Agar; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, DeVere Pearson; her parents, Edward and Daisy Doerr; and her siblings, Carla Doerr and Dennis Doerr.
