LORAIN - Jeffrey W. Patterson, 70, of Lorain, died Thursday March 12, 2015, at his home.

He was born May 15, 1944, in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.

Jeffrey graduated from Lorain High School in 1962 where he played trumpet in the marching band, concert band and jazz band and sang in the A Capella choir. He attended Kent State University where he earned a Bachelor Degree in Earth Sciences.

Jeffrey worked as a mail carrier for the Cleveland Postal Service before retiring. He also was a teacher and substitute teacher of science in the Lorain City School and North Ridgeville School systems and St. John Lutheran School in Elyria. Prior to that, he worked at Ohio Edison.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain where he was an usher during services and taught Sunday school. He enjoyed fishing and golf.

He is survived by his daughter, Jeanne Marie Patterson (Nate Ehasz) of Elyria Township; grandson, Robert Joseph Patterson, (and was looking forward to the birth of his granddaughter in June); nephews, David Patterson of Renton, Washington and Glenn Patterson (Diane) of Chicago; great-nephew, Kyle Patterson; and great-niece, Anissa Patterson; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter R. Patterson in 1992 and Mary M. Patterson (nee Sanders) in 2008; and brother, Russell Patterson in 2012.

The family will receive friends Monday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. Additional viewing will be on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. funeral services at Zion Lutheran Church, 5100 Ashland Ave, Lorain. The Rev. Gary Georgi, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
