Joseph Hector Labrie was married to Hazel Margaret Wilson. They came to Ponoka, Alberta, circa 1933, where the Labrie family was actively involved in the community. They had two daughters. Joseph was a district school trustee for a time, mayor of Ponoka from 1965-1967, and had been a president of the Stampede and Exhibition Association. He operated an automobile business as well as the Capital Theatre, and was a partner in an aircraft renovation and resale business. US border crossing records show that Joseph was born at Estevan, Sask. Joseph and Hazel were killed in an airplane crash in the mountains near Wrangell, Alaska, along with two other couples, while travelling to Alaska for a fishing trip.
