SOUTH OGDEN – Melvin Antone Jensen, 88, of South Ogden, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 23, 2009 surrounded by his family.

He was born on March 12, 1921 in Kaysville, Utah to Anton Glenburn and Leone Wilcox Jensen. At the age of nine, Melvin went to Kaysville again to live with his grandmother, Nettie Jane Barber Wilcox, where he lived until he was married.

This experience resulted in Melvin gaining another set of brothers and sisters. Melvin graduated from Davis High School where he lettered in tennis and wrestling. He married his sweetheart, Nareen Dalton, on August 19, 1942 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1942, he served his country faithfully for four years in the armed forces, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Upon returning to Utah, Melvin completed his education at Weber College graduating with a degree in business. Melvin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was ordained a High Priest. He also served for many years as the Financial Ward Clerk for several Bishops.

Melvin enjoyed working at the Ogden Temple in the Baptistery for several years. Melvin’s love of sports made him a familiar figure at many sporting events in the Ogden area. He was active in the Baseball Association of Ogden as well as a referee for high school football and basketball games for many years. He was an avid Weber State Wildcats fan and held season tickets for 20 plus years.

He also loved going to the BYU football games with his Uncle Harold for many years. When his daughter Julie started working at Boise State University, they had many fun times debating on who was the better team. Melvin worked for the Unites States Government with the Postal Service and later at Hill Air Force Base for over 30 years. He received many awards and commendations for his outstanding service.

Melvin had a love for travel and was excited to always take his family on fun filled vacations to many parts of the country. Later on in his life you could find Mel and Nareen traveling in their motor home to some very beautiful parts of the country. He had a keen sense of direction and often found himself in the lead of several motor homes. He was proud to have the handle of “Silverfox”.

Melvin was a wonderful husband and father to his family as well as a great friend to many. He will be greatly missed by all. We would like to thank the staff that cared for him at Mt. View Health Services. All at this facility loved Melvin.

Melvin is survived by his wife Nareen, and his daughters, Pam (Mike) Scott, Bountiful; Julie (Gary) Stevens, Boise, Idaho; grandchildren, Kevin (Barbara) Jones, Maryland; Kyle (Amy) Jones, California; Karl (Andrea) Jones, Idaho; Kristofer Jones, K’Dee (Branden) Storey, Kody Jones and fiancé Ashli Gleed, Kara Jones, Sean (Lori) Stevens, all of Idaho. Melvin also has eight great-grandchildren, Andrew, Karlie, Carson, Lincoln and Emerson Jones, Daedrin, Forest and Jovee Story. Melvin is survived by two sisters, Betty (Cleon) Tucker and Lou Jean Mulvey, along with his Aunt Nora Barber.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Glen and his sisters Leona and Lorraine. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 1 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary on Thursday, April 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Send condolences to the family at: www.lindquistmortuary.com
