George King Kershaw was the son of George Trenholm Kershaw and Adele King Middleton Kershaw. His ancestry came from the British Isles via Colonial South Carolinian families. He was a civil engineer, and retired from the U.S. Corps of Engineers in Huntington. Early in his career as an engineer, he worked on civil and land development projects in Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico, where he met and married his wife, Leonor Farias. During the Mexican Revolution (1913), the political climate forced them, along with their children, to abandon their home and posessions, and flee to the United States. After initially working as a civil engineer in Hendersonville, NC, where he had family roots established, he later settled permanently in Huntington, WV.
