Early Life: Rachel was born June 14, 1974, to Bernave "Bennie" and Carmen Banks Martinez. Growing up in American Fork, Utah, Rachel attended Greenwood Elementary, American Fork Junior High and graduated from American Fork High School. She made many cherished friends during her hometown education.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Later, she graduated from Salt Lake Community College, Utah State University, and in May of 2014, from Leslie University in Boston, having earned a master's degree. Rachel was a valued instructor in the Salt Lake School District, serving special needs children. She provided loving instruction to handicapped children with great humor and compassion. She was dedicated to her profession, most recently, teaching at Dillworth Elementary in Salt Lake City, where she will truly be missed by students and staff. She was nominated as Teacher of the Year for 2014 in the Salt Lake School District, a recognition she greatly appreciated. Rachel Sofia Martinez passed away suddenly on March 10, 2015, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Survived By: Her parents; brother, Roland (Joanna) Martinez, of St. Louis, MO; her beloved niece and nephews: Sofia, Coleman and Joaquin; and long time friend, Chris Goodman.
