Gerd was a retired Air Force Colonel and 25 year veteran of the New Orleans' public school system.
Preceded in death by her parents, William and Ella (Erikstad) Klaveness, brothers Odd and Alfred, twin sister Aud (Klaveness) Cutshall.
She was the first woman to command the 1st Wartime Information Security Squadron and the first to command a combat support squadron.
Col. Klaveness graduated from LSU with a bachelor's degree, earned a master's degree from Loyola University and served as the assistant executive officer of the Fulbright exchange program in Oslo.
She was an art teacher at Gregory Junior High School, assistant principal of Rabouin Vocational and principal of McDonogh No. 10 and John A. Shaw schools.
Survived by many nieces and nephews.
