Margie Etta Allen, 90, of Litchfield, died at 7:02 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, 2015, in Hillsboro Rehab & Health Care Center.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 14, in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. The Rev. William Zanton, of Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Springfield, will officiate. Inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield at a later date.
Visitation will be held Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time in the church. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Allen was born on March 9, 1924, in South Litchfield Township, a daughter of the late Frank J. and Bessie Lee (Logsdon) Birkenkamp.
She married Robert Lee Allen on Oct. 30, 1942, in St. Charles, MO, and he preceded her in death on July 15, 2008.
She was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield. Over the years there she was an active member and served on the kitchen committee. She was a homemaker and a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader in Litchfield.
In her leisure time she enjoyed traveling, especially going to the ocean, and was an avid gardener.
Mrs. Allen is survived by a son, Robert L. "Buddy" Allen II of Chicago, a daughter, Constance L. Stewart of Litchfield; a brother, Terry R. (Paula) Birkenkamp of Litchfield; two grandchildren, Rodney (Amy) Stewart of Hillsboro and Cindy (Jason) Roecker of Tulsa, OK; and seven great-grandchildren
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Amos F. Birkenkamp and Frank Birkenkamp, and three sisters, Barbara Mathis, Lana Dordell and Ruth Thorne.
The family suggests memorials to Mt. Zion Lutheran Church.
