Richard M. Tate, 60, of rural Port Matilda, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.

He was born May 10, 1954 in Bellefonte, a son of the late Ernest Max and Tressie Marie Carson Tate.

He was married to the former Helga "Cookie" D. Kormanic who survives at home

Mr. Tate was the shop supervisor for Long’s Motor Buses in State College. He was the previous owner of Tate’s Trash Service and Tate’s Concessions.

Richard was a member of Sons of American Legion Post 245 at Pine Hall.

He was gifted in so many ways and capable of successfully completing all kinds of work, a Jack of all trades. Anyone he came in contact with was somehow touched in a positive way by him, and he in turn was loved by all.

Surviving Mr. Tate are seven children, Bronson (Kelly) Tate of England, Daisy Hartley of Bellefonte, Heather Ann Walston of Virginia, Chrystal Kauffman of State College, Roy M.J. Kauffman of Centre Hall Richard M. Tate, II and Helga T. Tate at home; 9 grandchildren, and nephew of Roy, Vera and Amy Carson, also survived by many cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Marrion.

Friends will be received from 6 - 8 p. m. Friday, January 9, 2015, and from 9 - 11 a.m. Saturday January 10, 2015 at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College. The funeral will follow immediately at 11:00 am at the funeral home with the Rev Bill Benson officiating. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park, State College, PA
