Rev. Baldwin Dies Following Heart Attack

One of the best-known pastors of this area, the Rev. B.H. Baldwin, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 31, in Providence Hospital in El Paso after suffering an apparent heart attack during the Sun Bowl football game.

The Rev. Baldwin, who was pastor of the Frio Baptist Church in the Frio Community, came to this area in June of 1955 from Weilman, where he served as pastor of the Union Baptist Church. He was also counselor for Stanton Junior High School and teacher of special education.

He, his wife and other relatives had driven to El Paso to see his son, Eugene, play in the game for West Texas State.

Born on April 17, 1907 at Delwin, Tex., he was 55 years of age at the time of his death. He was married to Sally Blanch King on July 21, 1929, in Cauelene, Tex.

Survivors include his wife, Blanch, of the home; four sons, Darrell of Ft. Worth, Godfrey of Austin, Robert of Amarillo and Eugene, a student at West Texas and three daughters, Mrs. Ben Dean of Dallas, Mrs. Homer West of Hereford and Mrs. Wesley Urp of Wisconsin.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, in the Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. J.L. Bass of Farwell, the Rev. R.L. Shannon of Rankin and the Rev. Howell Verner of Balmorhea officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of Gililland Funeral Home and interment will be at West Park Cemetery.
