JEFFERSON — On Sunday, March 8, 2015, while at home surrounded by his family, Robert “Bob” James Roney Jr., age 82, passed from this earthly life into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father and was reunited with his wife Nina.
Bob was born July 19, 1932, in Erie, Pa., the son of Robert James and Rose Ann (Simeon) Roney Sr. He married the love of his life Nina Belle Moss on Dec. 29, 1955, in Erie, Pa. They were married over 52 years before Nina passed in 2008. They spent most of their married life living in the Geneva/Harpersfield area before moving to Jefferson in 2005.
Bob had a strong work ethic and although he retired from the Alltel Phone Company in 1993, he never once slowed down. Some of his many hobbies throughout the years included working on cars, home remodeling, gardening, cooking and woodworking. As part of his woodworking, he made many items for his family that will be cherished for generations to come.
On Sunday afternoons his family would gather at his home for his homemade Italian dinners. He was a devoted family man and always the first one there to lend a hand. He unselfishly put the needs of his family and friends first. He loved spending time with his family. He found great joy in being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved and spoiled.
Survivors include his four children, Richard J. (Linda) Roney of Ashland, Debora S. (Robert) Swartz of Harpersfield, Paul J. (Susan) Roney of Austinburg and Ann M. (Robert) Taft of Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Beth Fenlason, Karen Dickey, Brian Swartz, Joseph Roney, Joshua Roney, Jacob Roney, Heather Taft and Emily Taft; five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Benjamin Fenlason, and Ashlynn, Blake and Connor Dickey; three brothers and five sisters, Mitchell Roney, Rosanna Renshaw, Charles Roney, Mary Perry, Jenny Gresh, Joan Baldwin, Jerry Roney and Betty List, all of Pennsylvania; along with several nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his faithful dogs, “Dingo & Daisy.”
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant siblings, Nancy and Paul; and the true love of his life, Nina. Bob and Nina are once again dancing to their favorite song “Look at Us”.
At Bob’s request a private funeral will be held. Bishop Dana Harju, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Stroke Association (American Heart Association), P.O. On Sunday afternoons his family would gather at his home for his homemade Italian dinners. He was a devoted family man and always the first one there to lend a hand. He unselfishly put the needs of his family and friends first. He loved spending time with his family. He found great joy in being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he dearly loved and spoiled.
Survivors include his four children, Richard J. (Linda) Roney of Ashland, Debora S. (Robert) Swartz of Harpersfield, Paul J. (Susan) Roney of Austinburg and Ann M. (Robert) Taft of Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Beth Fenlason, Karen Dickey, Brian Swartz, Joseph Roney, Joshua Roney, Jacob Roney, Heather Taft and Emily Taft; five great-grandchildren, Taylor and Benjamin Fenlason, and Ashlynn, Blake and Connor Dickey; three brothers and five sisters, Mitchell Roney, Rosanna Renshaw, Charles Roney, Mary Perry, Jenny Gresh, Joan Baldwin, Jerry Roney and Betty List, all of Pennsylvania; along with several nieces and nephews. He will also be sadly missed by his faithful dogs, “Dingo & Daisy.”
