Born Lidwina Tremmel, the daughter of Louis and Maximiliana (Endres) Tremmel of Johnstown, PA, Sister Mary Immaculate Tremmel, O.S.F., was for 60 years a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia at Aston, Pennsylvania, where she served as the sixth Superior General. She was a school teacher, and in 1892 she was sent to teach at St. Joseph's Academy in Tekoa, Washington, where she was superior of the community. She later served as Mother Superior of St. Francis Convent at Pendleton, Oregon, and taught at the St. Joseph Academy which was located there. Sister Immaculate served for over 40 years in the northwestern U.S., and then returned to the Convent of Our Lady of Angels at Aston, PA, where she died in 1940, age 78.
