Son of SWR Jones.
Samuel W. Jones, 70 years old, who crossed the plains from Indiana to Oregon in 1853, when he was 3 years old, died yesterday at his home near Brooks. He died on the old farm that became the residence of his father, S.W.R. Jones, when the family came to this state.
Mr. Jones was a member of a family that has been connected prominently with the history of western Oregon. He is survived by his widow, Sarah Elizabeth Jones and by the following children: Mrs. Jennie Collard, Mrs. Altha Naftzger, Mrs. Edna Ramp, Miss Sylvia W. Jones, Miss Areta Jones and Paul Jones, all residents of Marion county. One of 15 children, he is also survived by two brothers and three sisters, M.L. Jones, Scott Jones, Mrs. Susan Hunsaker, Mrs. Sarah Clark and Mrs. Emma Simmons. Another brother, Harrison Jones, died last February. Funeral services will be held from Pioneer church Saturday at 3:30 o'clock p.m. with Rev. J.J. Evans of the First Christian church of Salem officiating.
Interment will be in pioneer cemetery.
