The son of Elisha Painter and Mary Jane Ingram, Guy married twice; first to Nora V. Morris, then to Maud M. Wilson. He was survived by four sons, Byde, Arthur, Walter, and Wilbur Painter; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Alice Neff and Merle Allison.
