During his time as a surveyor, in Samuel 1747 erected a small grist mill on Pickering Creek in Pikeland County - today, this is a National Historic Landmark known as Lightfoot Mill (Mill at Anselma) and is acknowledged as "the nation's best surviving example of a water-powered custom grist mill."
