Alvin L. Bohlen, 85, of Allison, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at the Rehabilitation Center of Allison.
Alvin Lavern Bohlen was born on January 18, 1930, in Dumont, Iowa, the son of Fred and Anna (Siems) Bohlen. He was raised and educated in Allison. He worked at Opperman Meat Market, Allan Chevrolet, and then Butler County REC from 1952 until his retirement in 1992, as a line crew chief.
Alvin served in the United States Army from November, 1951, until his honorable discharge in 1952. On June 18, 1953, Alvin was united in marriage to Leone Winifred Shepard at the First Baptist Church in Waverly, Iowa.
Alvin was a sixty year member of the Allison Congregational Church, and also a member of Amvets Post #88 in Allison, and the Masonic Lodge in Allison. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, trimming bushes, and took pride in his flowers and gardening.
Alvin's memory is honored by his wife, Leone Bohlen of Allison; two daughters, Vicki (Dale) Schoneman, and Susan (Brian) Jacobs all of Allison; son John Bohlen of Ankeny; 8 grandchildren, Nick Hurd, Erik and Genna Schoneman, T.J. Bohlen, and Jamie, Blake, Kayla and Marcy Jacobs; 2 great-grandchildren, Kael Schoneman and Cora Bohlen; sister, Irene Poppen of Allison; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Sena Santee and Jennie Bruns, three brothers Freddie Bohlen, and 2 in infancy.
According to Alvin's wishes, his body has been cremated, and a memorial service will be held at the Allison Congregational Church on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor Ralph Wedeking officiating. Burial of cremains will be at the Allison Cemetery at a later date.
