Funeral services for Shirley Bennett Thompson of Winona will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Kenneth Armstrong officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Winona. Visitation will be Friday, from 11:00 a.m. until service time, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mrs. Thompson died of heart failure at Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood on Tuesday, March 3. She was 74 years old. Mrs. Thompson was born on January 8, 1941, to the late Frank Leslie and Mary Lena Costilow Bennett. She was a retired employee of Angelica Corporation and a member of North Winona Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. J. W. Thompson.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Thompson Gordon (Jerry) of Winona; two sons, James L. Thompson of Winona and Ricky Thompson (Carla) of Kilmichael; sisters, Ruby McCannon of Nesbit and Elizabeth Bennett of Nashville, TN; brothers, James Bennett of Water Valley and Jimmy Bennett; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chad McElroy, Justin Thompson, Johnny King, Jason Newton, William Thompson, and Chuck Carolla. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Browning, Tracy Browning, and Danny King.
