Claudia Ellen Brooks
Claudia Ellen Brooks, 90, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away at 1:10 p.m., Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg, Kansas. Born November 17, 1924, at Liberal, Missouri, Claudia was the daughter of George Franklin and Susie Evelyn (McWilliams) Weaver. She graduated from Liberal High School and was queen of her senior class in 1943 and then graduated from Draughons Business College in Springfield, Missouri. Following that, she worked in the offices of Herr's Department Store until after WWII, when she left to devote her life to her family and church. On June 17, 1944, she was united in marriage to James Earl Brooks at Ardmore, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on April 13, 2014. Membership was held in the South Broadway Baptist Church, where she was an active leader in the Women's Missionary Society and the quilting guild until her health would no longer permit. She is survived by a son, Dr. Kenneth Brooks and his wife, Donna of Pittsburg; a daughter, Dr. Nancy J. Brooks of Muncie, Indiana; four grandchildren, Dr. Dustin Brooks and his wife, Tiffany, Dr. Thomas Brooks and his wife, Stacey, Gary E. Thompson, Jr. and his wife, Amy, and Corissa Rowlands and her husband, Mike; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and eight brothers, Herbert “Howard”, Marvin, Lloyd, Clarence “Bill”, Ward, Lester, Lorren “Neil”, Walter Weaver and a sister Georgia Beatty. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday (March 7) at the South Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Moss officiating. Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
