"Emanuel Elbridge, whose death occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Ben Turpin, Tuesday, February 21st, had been a resident of Linn county for forty-four years. He was born in Stokes county, N.C., in 1815, and had reached the advanced age of 83 years, 1 month and 29 days. He removed from North Carolina to Smithland, Illinois, October 29, 1839, and was married in 1841 to Miss Cassie A. Stogsdell, whose birth place was Pulaski county, Kentucky. They came to Lewis county, Missouri, in 1850 and from there to this county in 1855, making their first home in this county south of Laclede. His wife died some years since and during the past four years has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Ben Turpin.

Three of his five children, William H. Eldridge of Oklahoma, Mrs. Ben Turpin and Mrs. Frank Morris, both of Brookfield, survive him.

Father Eldridge was in every sense of the word a just man, the soul of honor and was respected and liked by all who knew him. He had been a member of the Christian church for many years.

His funeral occurred Thursday, February 23rd, the services conducted by Rev. W. L. Stratton of the Christian church, and the remains laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery. He has gone to join his beloved wife in the far-off beyond. Peace be with him." Brookfield Gazette (Brookfield, Missouri), March 4, 1899
