The funeral was conducted by Rev. C. W. Cornn on Monday afternoon, September 2, from the home and burial was in Rose Hill cemetery.
Mary J., daughter of Emanuel and Cassie A. Eldridge, was born near Lewistown, in Lewis County, Missouri, August 20, 1850. With her parents she moved to Linn County, March 10, 1855, and settled near Laclede. They remained there until November 5, 1865, when they moved near St Catharine. She was united in marriage to Benjamin F. Turpin, June 30, 1867. To this marriage five children were born, Benjamin Franklin, Jr., preceded his mother in death in 1898. The husband passed away December 16, 1915.
Those who mourn her passing are the following sons and daughters, John L., Ira Jackson, Bessie O. Grubb and Della Markey, all of Brookfield; one nephew, Lewis E. Townsend of Powhattan, Kansas, whom she reared; three grandchildren, F. D. Markey of Detroit, Mary E. Berkis and Bessie R. Williams of Brookfield; two great-grandchildren; three nieces and four nephews, as well as a host of friends.
