Myrtie Allen Morgan, age 93, of Jasper, FL. passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at Surrey Place in Live Oak, FL. Myrtie was born on May 29, 1921 in Branford, FL. to the late Bryant Joshua Allen and Annie Green Allen. One of nine children, Myrtie learned the value of hard work. She got her education in the nursing field and worked as an L.P.N. most of her career at Lake City V.A. Medical Center. Following her retirement from the V.A. she worked at Suwannee Valley Nursing Center in Jasper mostly just to keep up her license. She and her husband Ronald lived in Live Oak, FL. for many years but finally got tired of the city life and moved to Hamilton County to be closer to the farm.

Most people have hobbies and a casual onlooker might say fishing was hers however, those that really knew Myrtie would know that she considered fishing a calling. She heard that river “calling” just about every day of her life. She had her own boat for many years when she lived on the Suwannee River and would take off in a minute to catch fish. After she moved from the riverfront property to the farm, you could find her most any afternoon on the Withlacoochee Bridge much to the disapproval of the local Florida Fish and Wildlife officers. She practically laughed the officer off of the bridge when he told her it was not safe for her to be there and would have laughed if it had not made her so mad. Her father, Bryant sat at the base of that bridge when they tore the old wooden one down and built the new one and she considered it “the family” bridge. Myrtie was many things, to many people. She was a wife, mother, sister, aunt, caretaker, dedicated church member, but there was nothing that she treasured more than the title of “Nana”. She was Nana not only to her own grandchildren but to their friends, and to her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who grew up on and around the farm with her and Papa. Myrtie was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald K. Morgan “Papa”, her son David Morgan, four brothers, Willie Allen, Bryant “Jr.” Allen, Earl Allen, and Israel James “I.J.” Allen, and one sister, Letha Gaston.

Survivors include her son, Gary M. Morgan, Jasper, FL.; her daughter, Priscilla M. Rye (James), Jasper, FL.; daughter-in-law, LeNelle Morgan, Live Oak, FL.; former daughter-in-law, Martha Butler (Bill), Jennings, FL.; one brother, Pete Allen (Virginia), Lee, FL.; two sisters, Annie Laura Futch (Tom), Macclenny, FL. and Betty Jean Morgan(Tommy ), Live Oak, FL.; sister-in-laws, Shirley Allen, Jasper, FL, Nancy Allen, Live Oak, FL. and Juanita M. Hice (Steven), Lake City, FL. brother-in-law, Montie Joe Morgan, Lake City, FL.; seven grandchildren, Dee Anne, Laurel, Gary Michael, Kimberly, Michael, Matt and Jonathan; seven great grandchildren.
