"MY HUSBAND'S AUNT"

Charlene Dixon Duncan of Crestline, Kansas, age 94, went to her eternal home Wednesday morning, March 4, 2015.

She was born September 7, 1920 to Charles and Lily Kaiser Dixon in the Clem district of rural Cherokee County. She attended Clem school through the 8th grade.

Charlene received the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at the age of 13 while her family was attending Forest Park Baptist Church of Joplin. A few years later she was one of the charter members of Macedonia Baptist Church when it was organized.

She married Walter V. Duncan on June 10, 1944 just before he left for the European theater during WWII. They had three sons, James, Daniel, and Paul Duncan.

Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers: Glenn and Clyde Dixon; one sister: Margie Hamilton; one grandchild: Timothy Duncan; and one great-grandchild: Samuel Wayne Major.

She is survived by her sons: James (wife Kathy) of McDonald County, Daniel (wife Barbara) of Crestline, Kansas, and Paul, of the home. She is also survived by 4 grandchildren: Ralph Duncan, Beth Duncan, Kim Major (husband Dustin), and Andrew Duncan of Rogers, Arkansas; also 4 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Isaac, Ben and Daniel Major.

Charlene was a member of the First Baptist Church of Crestline, Kansas, where she had been a member since 1948 when her husband Walter was called to pastor the church, which was then known as Wirtonia Baptist Church. She was a member of the WMU, and was an avid supporter of Missions, holding the first Bible School in Wirtonia. Other positions she held in the church included Sunday School Teacher, Church Treasurer, and Pianist. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and canning.

Funeral services are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus, Kansas, and will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, March 10, 2015, at First Baptist Church of Crestline, Kansas. James Duncan will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately before the service from 12:30-2:00 PM. Online condolences may be left at Derfeltfuneralhome.com.
