Evelyn Grace Grissom Strickland, 93, a resident of Wendell, passed away Monday, March 2, 2015 at her home in Wendell.
Evelyn was born January 16, 1922, to William P. and Minnie C. Stimson Grissom in Gooding, Idaho.
Evelyn married Mark Strickland on October 15, 1938 in Jerome, Idaho. They then began their life farming, raising cattle, milking cows and raising a family.
Mark and Evelyn raised 6 children.
Evelyn is survived by her children Pat Strickland, Jerry (Carol) Strickland, Shorty (Stefanie) Strickland, M. Carol Kunder, Ruby (Larry) Graves, and Don (Lynn) Strickland. Evelyn is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; Jim Wilson, who lived with them; and Judy Wahler, a family friend.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Minnie Grissom; her husband Mark, her sister Elva Koonce; 2 sons-in-law, Bill Roscoe and Ron Kunder; and 2 grandsons.
Evelyn was a long time member of the United Methodist Church in Wendell, the Orchard Valley Grange, the Pollyanna Club and the UMW. She also volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary.
Evelyn liked making quilts, quilt blocks, crocheting and embroidering pillow cases and anything she could stick a needle in.
The family requests donations in Evelyn’s name be made to the United Methodist Church in Wendell, Encompass Home Health and Hospice, or a charity of your choice.
The family would like to send a special thank you to all of Evelyn’s friends and neighbors and Encompass Home Health and Hospice, especially Shannon, Donny, Alma and the rest of the crew.
Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, on Friday, March 6, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, 175 East Main St. in Wendell with visitation at the church beginning at 12:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Wendell Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Demaray Funeral Service – Wendell Chapel.
