Mr. Sheets was born in Oakland and had lived in the Earlham, Van Meter and Dallas Center areas before moving to Winterset five years ago. He was a bulk-feed truck driver with Farmer's Co-op in Dallas Center and a part-time custodian at Dallas Center-Grimes Elementary School before retiring. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Dallas Center United Methodist Church and American Legion in Dallas Center. He enjoyed camping and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Jean; two daughters, Linda and Nancy; a son, Larry; a stepson, Mike Wright of Winterset; a stepdaughter, Deeanna Prague of Nova Scotia, Canada; three brothers, Harold and Raymond, both of Perry, and Ralph of Peoria; and a grandchild.
Friends may call after noon Tuesday at Brandt Funeral Home in Dallas Center where the family will be present from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Earl Sheets Memorial Fund.
