With thanksgiving to God, we celebrate the gift of Rosie Mae ‘Yank’ Alston, 68, in our lives. Rosie, affectionately known as Granny, left her earthly vessel to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 21, 2015. She will be remembered most as a devoted wife who treasured her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was truly set apart by her Heavenly Father, with a spirit of kindness and giving. Her life motto was “The more you give, the more God gives to you”. Everyone she encountered was truly touched by her God given gift. Her home, heart and kitchen were always open. She had an overwhelming compassion to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and visit the sick. She truly understood that what she did for the least of her fellow brethen was done unto Christ. Her passing will leave a void in the neighborhood that will be hard to fill, for she truly loved her neighbors and attempted to meet the needs of everyone she met.

She accepted and embraced Jesus Christ as her Savior. She was a former member of Bethedesda Missionary Baptist Church and current member of Restoration Church of Americus, Georgia. She faithfully served both of these churches for many years and served on the Usher Board.

She loved cooking and could always be found in the church kitchen or her own kitchen cooking up a delicious meal. You never left her home hungry and she always gave you a plate to take with you. Her life’s joy was feeding souls.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, King Alston; five daughters, Jennifer (Floyd) Currington, Felecia (George) Green, Tabitha (Charles) Jones, Sharron (Alton) Marcus and Shelia Brown; nine grandchildren, Jason Currington, Tory Smith, Brittney Newkirk, Tia and Zariah Jones, Alton and Amber Marcus, Niquan Alston and Ellis Brown; three great-grandchildren, JaMariana and Omeriah Smith and J.J. Currington; one sister, Annie (Richard) Alston; three dear nieces and nephews (reared as her siblings), Deloise (Marvin) Alston, Willie James (Ida Pearl) Jackson, Jimmie (Sandra) Jackson and a host of relatives and friends.

Not only was she blessed with five daughters, but also God gave her the privilege of being the caregiver for Ronnie Lee and Sandy Sorrells. She had the wonderful opportunity to help raise their three boys whom she considered her sons, Neil (Ashley), Chandler (Stephanie) and Ron (Kyla) Lee.
