Jerry L. Amenell, 63, of Burlington, died at home.

He was born to Glen T. and Catherine E. Shortridge Amenell. On January 4, 1964, he married Roberta J. Hauser in Burlington.

Mr. Amenell worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad for 41 years before retireing in 2003.

He was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus No. 568 and the National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees, Inc. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed working on automobiles.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Catherine Dietsch; daughter, Shayla Blackburn of Niota, Illinois; sons, Bradly of Burlington and Dustin of Lewisville, Texas; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Sidney of Burlington; sister, Susan Griffith of West Burlington; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

The Mass of the Resurrection was at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Albert Hauser, O.S.B. as the Celebrant and Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the Concelebrant. Music was provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir.
