On Aug. 15, 1933, Herman married Elizabeth Catherine Messer. Upon their marriage, they farmed at Belfry, where son Clarence was born; then Hardin, where Jacob Eugene and Deroy Albert were born; then to Bridger, where Elden was born; then to Billings, where Clayton, Marlene and LaVaine were born. Herman was an electrician and worked in construction until retiring. Herman is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, of 58 years; five children, Clarence of Fairbanks, Alaska, Elden of Dickinson, N.D., Clayton of Salem, Ore., Mrs. Clifford (Marlene) Hust of Jamestown, N.D., and LaVaine of Phoenix, Ariz.; four brothers, Ed, Emanuel, Albert and Bruce "Boots"; three sisters, Peggy Kraft, Alice Rasmussen and Anna Jensen; 17 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Anna Marie Kraft; two sons, Deroy Albert and Jacob Eugene; three brothers, Bill, Jake and John; three sisters, Cecelia Anderson, Catherine Hergenrider and Frieda Anderson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 1992 at First Congregational Church in Laurel with interment in Laurel Cemetery. Smith-Cashmore Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
