Death Claims Mrs. James DIVELBISS

Following weeks of suffering which firmly terminated in a severe paralytic stroke 1 Nov. 1920, Mrs. James Divelbiss quietly passed away at her home on Osage Street, Wed., 23 Nov., at noon. Her husband, her friend, Mrs. Hisey & the young woman she raised from infancy, Mrs. Glory Otis, were at her bedside when the final summons came, which released her from all suffering.
Although there was no hope from the day she was stricken, yet she seemed to rally considerable last week & her loved ones dared hope she might be spared to them for a time at least, but this was not to be on Sat. she suffered a relapse & remained in a semi-conscious state to the last. Mrs. Otis arrived here last Thursday from Sacramento, in time to be recognized by her auntie. Her sister, Mrs. ABBOTT of Hanford, was also with her that last week, but had returned home accompanied by her father, Mr. THOMPSON when Mrs. Divelbiss seemed to take a slight turn for the better.
Mrs. Divelbiss, who with her family has made Inglewood their home for the past 11 years, was a woman held in the highest esteem by all who knew her, always willing & ready to do for those who needed her. Unselfish to the fault, after taking her strength to do for others. She never complained & her cheerful disposition kept her up long after the trouble which proved fatal, had gained such a hold upon her that those near & dear to her could see the last days approaching. She also knew the end was near, but only smiled to know she would then be free from all suffering. She was a thorough business woman as well.
While words fail to do her noble life justice, yet those who knew her & associated with her need no proof of splendid life. She has lived & her passing has left an aching void in many hearts, but what is her loved ones loss is her gain, & this alone brings comfort to the mourners. Her vacant chair will bring tears for many a day to come.
The funeral services in charge of Rev. Mitchell of the Episcopal Church will be held in the chapel at the Inglewood Park Cemetery this Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock with interment in the Inglewood Cemetery.
The bereaved ones have the deepest sympathy of all in their sorrow.
Mrs. Divelbiss is survived by her husband, her aged father, Mr. Thompson, a sister, Mrs. Abbott at Hanford, a brother, William Thompson of Inglewood & 3 sisters & 1 brother in the east.
