Bruce W. Lane of Downingtown
Bruce W. Lane, 81, of Downingtown, passed away peacefully, at his home on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Dale L. (Segner) Lane, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia on Feb. 9, 1934, Bruce was the son of the late Kenneth S., Sr. and Mary T. Lane and spent his childhood growing up in Chester Springs. He was a 1952 graduate of Downingtown Senior High School. He attended Penn State for two years on a baseball scholarship and also attended Philadelphia Textile and Temple University. Bruce entered the Army and served two years in Japan. He was an air-craft radar operator and became a meteorology specialist. After playing baseball for the Army in Japan, he signed with the minor league baseball team of the Baltimore Orioles and played for two seasons. Bruce began his working career at CertainTeed Corporation in Paoli, doing quality control. He left in 1964 to become employed at the LNP Plastics Corporation in Malvern, later moving with the company to Thorndale, where he became the transportation supervisor retiring in 2000 after 36 years with the company. He was involved in coaching the Downingtown Young Whippets football team and also playing baseball for the adult league in West Chester. He enjoyed reading and was an avid runner and participated in the "Run for Life" events during Good Neighbor Day in Downingtown. Bruce was a faithful blood donor for over 30 years up until his illness. He always enjoyed going to the WWII air shows and admired the P-51 Mustang airplane. In 2008, Bruce was diagnosed with a very rare disease called Amyloidosis. He traveled to the Boston Medical Center in 2009 for further evaluation advised by his doctor, Dr. Bernard Greenberg (Chester County Oncology/Hematology in West Chester). Dr. Greenberg followed Bruce's disease very closely and it was his friendship and dedication that made Bruce feel so special. Bruce was also very fortunate to have the medical attention of Dr. Bruce Colley and Dr. Steven Han. The family would like to thank the doctors and the Neighborhood Health Hospice staff for their excellent care and kindness. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lane is survived by his children, Bruce T. Lane, Downingtown, Stacey A. Sicola (Robert), Easton, Thomas W. Lane (companion, Denise Hall and her daughter, Victoria Hall), Honey Brook, and Drew T. Lane (Robin), North Wales. He was a loving Pop-Pop to his five grandchildren, Natalie Sicola, Kaitlin Lane, Andrew Lane, Madalynn Lane, and Grace Lane. He is survived by his sister, Joan L. Hayes, Colorado and brother, William L. Lane (Linda), Florida. He is also survived by his loving uncle, Joseph Humanick, Malvern and nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth S. Lane, Jr. and Nancy Lane. The family will be receiving relatives and friends on Saturday, Feb. 28, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the James J. Terry Funeral Home, 736 E. Lancaster Ave., Downingtown, followed by a memorial celebration of his life at 10:30 a.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held immediately following the service in Philadelphia Memorial Park, Frazer.
