Animal Actor. Trained by Hollywood animal trainer Frank Inn, Higgins The Dog was one of the first animals to play the role of 'Benji.' The dog was found and later adopted by Frank Inn from the Canine Animal Shelter in Burbank, California, in the 1960s. A cocker spaniel, poodle, and schnauzer mix, Higgins could open a mailbox, yawn, and sneeze on cue. Higgins first appearec as the unnamed dog in the classic television series, "Green Acres" from 1965 to 1971, and then played the role of 'Benji,' in the feature film, "Benji" in 1974. After Higgins death in 1975, at the age of 16, his offspring continued the role of 'Benji,' appearing in other films that included, "For The Love Of Benji" (1977), and "Benji The Hunted" (1987).
